Chauka Ya’ is a garment and accessory label by Cynthia Kewei that produces original, narrative-driven casual and fun lifestyle clothing with a strong connection to her island home province of Manus, Papua New Guinea. Cynthia had a successful 15-year career in Banking and Finance, but in 2016, chose to focus all her love and attention to her family and children with much of her inspiration and design sets starting from experiences at home just loving life with family. The cheeky, loud and persistent Chauka Bird (which appears on the Provincial Flag and emblem) has a strong persona instilled in the Brand’s mission to create refreshing, entertaining designs for ladies, men, and the youth of today., Chauka Ya is not just about getting people’s attention, but its about creating that persona in the label and wearing it loud and proud.

As a label, Chauka Ya wants our customers attention, but in the garments and fashion business you’re constantly competing with others to get or find that next look. Chauka Ya, is not playing by the same rules, just like our Chauka Bird, we own our look and feel, and we know how to get our buyers attention. We take traditionally significant items and objects From Manus culture and everyday life and we give them a fun and entertaining twist.
Today, thanks to multiple screens, instantly accessible content, and endless choice in nearly every competitive niche, the buyer now has total control. They only choose experiences they genuinely enjoy. And for Chauka Ya, we’re comfortable with that. We’re not for everyone but for everyone who wears us, please ‘enjoy’ and be loud and proud!
At some point Chauka’s songs and talk become just part of the comfortable place in the day. For our label its more about our customers than us. We aspire to great things too but more importantly we just want our customers to live life loud and proud just like our people and place.
